There are few pleasures in life simpler than crafting your own skin care products out of completely natural ingredients. A few plant derived ingredients, a little know-how and you've got an endless sea of options.
Those moments when you've slow cooked casserole that simmered over low heat for 6 hours or a family heirloom recipe that takes a little more love, patience and attention gets presented at the table and the faces light up with joy all the while you know that the best ingredients pack the biggest punch, a home crafted cream or moisturiser can bring the same level of satisfaction.
Sometimes, it takes a bit of learning to master the art of emulsification, in fact, some courses can take year to complete. That's why we have our Bases range, to help get you started.
This Body Custard recipe starts you off with a simple heat, cool, whip and mix procedure a little more advanced that a simple measure and mix practice that we recommend our bases for. We really think you'll enjoy putting this one together. And if you'd prefer to try before you make, we have a limited availability of ready-made Body Custards that you can add to your cart for only $9.00. More than that, 100% of the profits go into our One Good Thing program and donated to our favourite charities. Skin care that does good for more than just complexion.

Weigh out Shea Butter into a stainless steel cooking pot and add your beeswax.
Melt together over low heat until the beeswax has completely dissolved. Do not overcook. Remove from heat quickly once the two ingredients have melted, stir briefly then set aside to cool. This is the longest part. The mixture will need to cool to below 25 degrees celcius to start to solidify again - you want it to be thick enough to push a beater into but not completely solid.
While you wait for your butter to cool, weigh out your Lotion base into a clean mixing bowl.
Add the Green Tea Extract and Water to thin mixing well, then add the Mojave blend.
When the butter mixture has cooled, using an electric mixer or kitchen aid start whipping the butter until it becomes lighter and fluffier.
Slowly add in your rosehip oil until completely mixed together.
Add your lotion mixture to the butter mixture whilst continuously mixing until you reach a custard like consistency.
Pour into sterilised jars to store.
If you find your Shea and Wax hardens too quickly (should be like softened cooking butter consistency), try melting it again and straining it through a coffee filter. You may have to repeat this process a few times.
The lotion mixture should only be added to the butter mixture under 30 degrees to avoid the pre-emulsified lotion becoming unstable and separating.
As our lotion is only designed to take up to 10% in extra ingredients you may choose to add another preservative. Rosemary Antioxidant is a great option to help stabilise the product, alternatively you can extend the Phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin by 5gm per 500gm batch.
