Kids thrive outdoors, from playing in the dirt, rolling in the grass, exploring nature and splashing in puddles. With this extra mother earth exposure comes the added pressure to ensure our kids stay bite free. Mosquitos and mites are like moths to a flame with our little ones skin and returning inside covered with itchy and frustrating bites is now the new normal.
So how do we protect our bubs from these flying critters without exposing their sensitive systems to a range of nasty chemicals? Very simply.
Mother nature has a range of delightfully smelling ingredients that are bubba safe and we’ve put together an easy recipe that uses the best of them. Do not use this recipe on bubbas under 6 months old. This recipe is also suitable for adults with sensitive skin.
Eucalyptus Lemon Scented Gum is the most effective natural
essential oil at deterring mosquitoes and mites due to it’s high concentration
of citronellal (around 75%).
Sandalwood is also a common aroma that mosquitoes can not stand. Further it has a calming and grounding effect so those mums out there will understand why we run to this idea for our kiddies.
Sandalwood Floral Water is an affordable way of introducing the aroma to the lotion without the high price tag that comes with Sandalwood essential oil. If you would prefer to use the essential oil we recommend 1-2 drops in place of the floral water. Our floral waters are made with 1% oil into water and then preserved using a naturally derived preservative that is at a kid friendly dosage.
